About Barbados

Barbados is the most eastern Caribbean island. It is located approximately 13 degrees North and 59 degrees West of the prime meridian. The geological composition of Barbados is thought to be of non-volcanic origin and is predominantly composed of limestone-coral. The tropical climate of the island is cooled continually by the trade winds blowing from the east. The fresh breezes, warm sunshine and sufficient rainfall makes the average daytime temperature of 24-29 degrees Celsius.

Barbados is made up relatively flat island with the highest point only 340 metres above sea level. The population of 279, 000 occupies a land mass of 166 square miles. Nearly 90 percent of the population is of African decent, with the remainder mostly consisting of Europeans and Indians. The island is divided into 11 parishes. The country official language is English.
